The Green Infant School in South Normanton welcomed Mark Fletcher, MP for Bolsover, into school to see their revamped classrooms and new reading areas for children.
Visiting after World Book Day, children were able to show Mark Fletcher MP various areas within their school dedicated to promoting children’s love of reading. He said, “The children of The Green Infant were incredibly well behaved, and it is a lovely and vibrant school. It has been lovely to visit their new reading areas and to see how important reading is to the school, -and to the culture of the school.
“We know that reading is so important to pupils’ development and listening to the children talking about their World Book Day event, – and hearing about Pyjama Day at the school, it is clearly a very important part of their school ethos.”
Claire Newton is Senior Teacher at The Green Infant School, and she said the school’s focus on reading supports the wider curriculum. “Reading is a particular focus for us at The Green. We celebrated World Book Day by having author, Bemma Akyeampong join us for the day. She led English and art workshops about her book ‘Ayuda’s Messy Rescue’ and children were engaged and enjoyed their experience.
“We have worked hard on promoting reading in our school and have created a new library and reading areas in all classes. We were delighted when Mark Fletcher, the MP for Bolsover contacted us to ask if he could visit The Green Infant School. The children enjoyed showing him all of our new reading areas and the other exciting projects in school such as our new hall and revamped outdoor area for Foundation.”
Mark Fletcher MP said he had enjoyed his visit “Education is the most important thing in my constituency, it is the thing that will make the biggest difference to the community and help Bolsover to improve over time. Having well run schools, and schools that produce high standards, working as a crucial part of their communities, is essential. So, it is right that I visit schools and see what they are doing, -and to support them. I will definitely visit The Green Infant again and in fact think I have already committed to World Book Day next year!
