Stanstead Nursery & Primary School unveiled a beautiful new outdoor reading area at the school’s Summer Fair.

The new reading area will be used to promote a love of reading and provide an outdoor learning space for children to enjoy.

Year 3 Pupil Freya said she enjoyed the fair held in the school grounds, “It was amazing! All I could see were people with smiles on their faces and having fun.”

During the fair, children and their families enjoyed a range of stalls, an ice cream van and cake stall, face painting, a tombola, a photo booth and a penalty shootout area. On sale were personalised items, and a jewellery stall, and children could have a go at pebble art, hook a duck and a lucky dip.

The school also received a visit by a police car which the children enjoyed exploring, even trying out the siren! In addition to fun activities the school made available supportive services for parents, including representatives of Nottingham City Council, and NHS Social Prescribing to support health and wellbeing.

Providing a live music backdrop was the parent of a pupil at Stanstead, Brett Wales and his band.

Money raised at the fair will be put to good use, says Head Teacher Tanya Smith, “We want the children to be involved in the decision on how we spend the money raised at our Summer Fair.

“At previous events we raised money which has gone towards creating the new reading shed area, which the children asked for. This new reading area has all weather seating in a lovely setting for our children to find a quiet place to read during breaks and lunches should they wish. The new reading area is also a great outdoor space for children to take their lessons outside.”
