Children join Rob Rose to broadcast live on Sarah Julian’s Breakfast Show
Bilsthorpe Flying High Academy children welcomed Rob Rose from BBC Radio Nottingham into school to join in with some festive fun, -live on the Sarah Julian Breakfast Show.
Children from the school discussed Christmas with Rob and talked about their Santa Claus stories.
Rob said, “We are spreading some festive joy and thinking back to those nostalgic memories we all have of our own childhood at school. Imagine…it’s the final week of school before you break up for Christmas and your teacher wheels the huge TV out on the stand, and you can hold back on the schoolwork for a time. Today the children will tell me about their own Christmas wishes and we will share them with the audience on Sarah Julian’s Breakfast Show.”
During the two segments, children shared their Christmas stories with Rob and at the end were surprised by a visit from Santa Claus and Rudolph the Reindeer, who had taken time out of their busy schedule to join the children.
Pupil, James, (Year 1) joined the broadcast and was thrilled when Santa joined them afterwards. He said, “Santa came! This morning I have been putting up decorations at home then went on the radio! I asked Santa for a whistle. I think I could be a DJ because I have heard lots of Rock ‘n’ Roll songs and I have been a narrator in my nativity play.”
James says he thinks he has seen Santa at home. “I was asleep in my bed, and I heard a bang on the roof, which I thought was Santa’s sleigh, then I tiptoed downstairs, and smoke came out of the chimney, and I think I saw Santa’s feet!”
Pupil Heidi (Year 1) said “It’s been fun and it’s only five days until Christmas! I think my family might say wow to hear me on the radio!”
Rob Rose says he hopes the show brings back fond memories for listeners. “The whole team at the Sarah Julian Breakfast Show wanted to join with our communities to celebrate the festive time of year, and who better to do that with but children? It’s an amazing experience for the children and we hope listeners enjoyed the show.”
Samantha Leek is Head Teacher at Bilsthorpe Flying High Academy and said, “We want to say a huge thank you to Rob and the team at Sarah Julian’s Breakfast Show, and of course to Santa and Rudolph for visiting us. The children were fantastic, and we are all very proud of them. What a great memory this will be for them in years to come. The school would also like to thank the Edwinstowe and Dukeries Lions Club, in particular, Jonathan Yarwood and Adam Murphey for making the day so special.”
