Year 6 pupils at Killisick Junior School in Arnold have received certificates from the Nottinghamshire Hospice in recognition of a fundraising initiative prompted by their schoolwork.
Giles Drapkin is a Year 6 teacher at Killisick Junior School, and he explained, “As part of our Enterprise project, the children designed and made a range of products to sell at our Christmas Fair. Our whole school concept for that half-term was ‘Community’ so we decided that the profit made would be donated to a charity that would have an impact in our local community, – and we chose Nottinghamshire Hospice. Between the two classes who took part, we made a total profit of £236.55.”
Becky Sills is the Community Fundraiser at Nottingham Hospice and said, “Nottinghamshire Hospice really appreciate how hard Class Horowitz and Class Okogwu have worked to raise money to help local hospice care. Their recent fundraising is equal to almost 8 hours of care for one of our patients in their home! That’s a whole night of sleep for someone, knowing that we are caring for their family member. Thank you, Killisick Junior School, for your support.”
Year 6 pupil Atia Morrell took part and said, “We really enjoyed making all the products and it was great to make so much money and be able to help people in our community.”
