About

Who are Flying High?

Flying High is a multi-academy trust of 35 primary schools across Derbyshire, Nottingham City, and Nottinghamshire. Founded in 2012, our mission statement defines everything our central team and schools strive for every day: Together we will create uniqueexceptional and sustainable schools that inspire communities and empower children.

We are also the proud winners of a national MAT Excellence Award for Transformation & Impact, achieved in 2024. “The award itself reflects the DNA of our trust, it’s what makes our work extra special…We have never been timid about working in challenging areas, and we have the same high aspirations for all of our children.” Chris Wheatley, CEO.

What is a multi-academy trust?

Multi-academy trusts (MATs) are not-for-profit organisations that run several academies (schools).

Our Partnership

Our Flying High Partnership consists of two distinct parts:

  • The Flying High Trust which is the schools we are accountable for and they form our family of primary schools.
  • Flying High Futures which brings together the Teaching School Hub, English Hub and all Continual Professional Learning (CPL) we offer for schools across our designated region – development for all school based staff, regardless of role to ensure they make every day count for the children in their school.

We are also proud to have achieved an Outstanding rating in our 2023 Ofsted inspection for our school centred initial teacher training provision (SCITT), delivered in partnership with Inspiring Leaders teacher training. This Outstanding rating exemplifies the strong partnership between training provider, schools, and trainees, as we all work together to shape the next generation of confident and effective teachers.
